Madrid Fashion Week

As February nears, the great fashion capitals of the world prepare for the start of their fashion weeks. The runway at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid will be open in February. For six days, fashion lovers will be able to enjoy the presentations from the best Spanish fashion designers. Here they will present their collections for next winter within unique surroundings and with the all the prestige that accompanies this fashion show.

Previously known as Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week until 2007, this is the largest fashion event held in the Spanish capital. This established event on the fashion calendar began as a biannual even in 1990. After being held in a tent in the Plaza de Colón, it was moved to the Museo del Ferrocarril at the old Delicias train station which was later substituted by the Casa del Campo in 1996. Today the event is held in one of the Pavilions at the IFEMA fairgrounds outside of Madrid.

Today, known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid thanks to a sponsorship agreement with this auto manufacturer in 2012, this alliance has permitted Madrid’s fashion week to receive greater international projection. Additionally, freed from the pressure of constantly searching for sponsors, the organizers can focus exclusively on producing the best show possible.

Even though the organization has had a difficult time battling The Crisis, the fashion show has been able to grow year after year. A new, parallel event was added in 2006 for new and emerging designers called EGO which has also successfully helped attract visitors and professionals increasing attendance at both shows. The purpose of EGO is to spotlight new designers and show off alternative offerings that, after being presented, can become part of mainstream fashion

Thanks to an excellent team of organizers, a variety of concurrent activities and the celebrities come to see the latest fashions; Madrid transforms itself for a week into the fashion capital of Europe.
